NATURAL DIFFERENCES AND THE HEALING PROCESS

by Mike Jackson MFT

Natural Differences and the Healing Process, 2013, is based on the premise that natural differences in psychological types exist. Differences in perceptions, priorities, values and meanings that are present at birth, identifiable at an early age and do not change much across time.

Carl Jung identified the key determinants of natural differences on four behavior and/or process opposite dichotomies and published his findings in his book, Psychological Types in 1921.

Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel developed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a typological classification questionnaire based on Jung’s four dichotomies, first published in 1962.

David Keirsey identified a connection between the MBTI’s psychological types and the four temperaments associated with Temperament Theory and published his findings in Please Understand Me in 1984.

Mike Jackson noticed that this information on natural differences in psychological types and temperament is not being used in the counseling professions when determining a course of treatment for clients. Natural Differences and the Healing Process was written to provide clinicians with the information necessary to use a natural differences model as the foundation for the therapeutic process.
